Maroni – Premium liqueur
Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, French Guiana
An Amazonian liqueur with identity
The challenge
Maroni is a liqueur produced in French Guyana. This drink is made from rum and a rare Amazonian seed. The name Maroni is related to one of the most famous rivers in the region and is very important for the indigenous communities.
The solution
A visual identity was developed to transmit a quality, exclusive and autochthonous product. The design was inspired by the Tembé art, native to the indigenous peoples and present in the Maroni, Tapanahoni and Surinam rivers.

The process
Reference images
Different inspirational images were chosen for this project. The river, the native plants and the indigenous communities are important elements for the construction of the visual identity of the Maroni brand.
Tembé art
Tembé art has a strong meaning for the region. It originated in the 17th century by slaves trying to escape from their former torturers. These symbols were used as a “secret code” to spread information to survive in the jungle. They are composed of geometric and colorful patterns that intertwine with each other. Today they create handicrafts that can be offered on special occasions.
Logo design
Maroni’s logo was created from geometric shapes that intertwine with each other, symbolizing the river and Tembé art.
Label design
For this stage we developed a label design that transmits a quality, exclusive and autochthonous product.
